“Our mom, Joan Kelly, suffered a stroke and was admitted to Germantown Methodist Hospital on April 20, 2026. She also had an abscess in the back of her throat that prevented her from swallowing, eating, or drinking, so she required a feeding tube.
On May 16, she transferred to Germantown Baptist Rehabilitation, and on June 3, she came to Kirby Pines for additional rehabilitation. She received speech, occupational, and physical therapy. When she first arrived at Kirby Pines, Mom could only walk a few feet. During her time there, she learned to walk and eat again, and our family will be forever grateful for the hard work, prayers, love, care, and attention she received from the entire Kirby Pines family.
Mom developed wonderful relationships with her therapists, nurses, and CNAs. She enjoyed getting to know them and sharing prayers with them. Today, Joan is living independently in her Memphis condominium, enjoying time with family, friends, neighbors, and her Bible study group.
